I made the decision yesterday that i’m going to leave my current job as soon as i find a suitable new one, for reasons i probably shouldn’t disclose here. I feel relieved to have decided at least that much, as i’ve been trying to decide what to do with all these open doors since around January when our landlord started to pressure us to renew our lease for August. Hm, i could stay, or i could also leave…

So now i’ll be applying for jobs like mad, and i figure whatever offers i get will help me narrow down the next decision, which is where i want to go when this lease is up. I’m looking at:

  • staying in ames
  • moving or commuting to Des Moines
  • moving to Chicago
  • moving to Portland
  • moving to California where it’s f*cking warm

Yeah, i always swore i’d never live in Cali, but life here where there are seasons is just miserable anymore. Besides, it would make my grandparents really happy to be close enough to feed me lots of good Italian food, since i’m morbidly skinny in their eyes and need guidance.

Moving far away would mean sacrificing relationships though, which would suck. It’s probably not going to happen, because even though i’ve always had dreams of striking out on my own and magically turning into an admirable person by mere proximity to tall buildings and bright lights, being near the people i love is a lot more important to me. Portland would put me closer to some other people i love a lot, though, so it’s not a black-and-white issue by any means.

In regards to the new blog, thanks so much for your feedback. I put a button illusion up on the header in response to popular demand, and i think you were right. It looks nice. Now if only i could get a pretty rollover effect to happen without having to slice up that image…

Sweet, the blog is finished and ready for invitations! I even have a favicon in place, which i’m proud of. Turns out posting a photo from Flickr kinda sucks because A. it puts a bunch of code in place that i’d rather not have in my blog posts, and 2. i can only do one photo at a time that way.

So welcome to the new blog, comments and suggestions happily accepted. I have a feeling i’ll be giving this a new look before very many months go by, and maybe adding cool details in the meantime. The only thing i’ll miss about Myspace is seeing people’s photos next to their comments. I think it’s possible to do that here, but i doubt anyone will really want to make an account and upload a photo just for my little blog. Feel free, though.

I’m excited because now ANYONE can comment! Which means you, too, DAD and DAN! And spammers… i think i’d be flattered to get spam. Not really.

I have an RSS feed. Learn how to use it–your web browser probably has “RSS bookmarks” or something along those lines. It lets you see when i’ve made a new post without having to actually come to the website to check. Google makes a fun RSS reader. Personally, i’m a big fan of Netvibes. Possible instructional Netvibes post in the future.

Here are a few photos from the Star Wars dance Dan and i performed in last weekend. Yeah, we’re that cool.

Star Wars Geeks!
The one photo that i took (obviously the best composition). Dan as Emperor Palpatine!

Star Wars Geeks!
Dan’s shot of me as Mara Jade!

Star Wars Geeks!
Evil twins. Er, master and apprentice. Or something.

Star Wars Geeks!
Fear my flared nostrils! Dan, stop smiling! (“huh? :D “)

Star Wars Geeks!
Star Wars Geeks.

As you can see, my hair is lighter than it was. I paid a hefty sum for the treatment and wound up with hair that’s still much lighter at the top than the bottom. Extremely disappointing. You can’t tell in these photos, though, and actually the reddish-brown color i ended up with worked well for the costume.

Looks like it’s time for bed. Have a lovely weekend!

click the photo to see it on Flickr.Color space Hell!!, originally uploaded by amidala515.

This is a screen shot of the difference in the colors of my blog between Firefox and Safari on my Mac. I’m trying to learn about why this happens. In the meantime–i posted this from flickr, isn’t that cool?!

Still some outstanding issues to fix before invitations are sent. ::sigh::

I’ll take this opportunity to see how a list looks…

  • Fix gap below header in IE 7
  • Get RSS icon
  • Add content to portfolio page
  • Maybe figure out how to set portfolio as the home page
  • Fix image map in FF
  • Redesign, since it looks awful in the Mac color space.

Will someone please explain to me why anything designed on a Mac looks awful on a PC or printed, and anything designed on a PC looks awful on a Mac? Why are the color spaces so different???

I’m getting very close now to being ready to send out links to this blog. I need to write a little content before that, i need to figure out why the last entry pops off the page sometimes (whether it does that in IE as well, or just in FF), i need to put some stuff on the portfolio page, and possibly a photo of myself on the about me page. Maybe make the navigation look more like buttons, though i like the ambiguity.

I need a plan of attack for posting… i’ll post at least once a week, i promise. I’m not sure if anyone would want to visit more often than that, considering that only a couple of my readers will know how to use an RSS reader. I should also put an RSS button in the sidebar… Maybe look into some SEO, though i’ll mostly be blogging for people i know rather than the general public.

This is a lot of work, but hopefully it will be worth it!
