My current lease is up in March. Here’s a photo of what may very well be my next home:

111 Lofts

This is a photo of one of the 111 City Lofts in downtown Des Moines. I went and looked at them last weekend and definitely fell in love…

Nathan and i went to the EPIC Ugly Sweater Party at Impromptu Studio last night. Here’s a photo, courtesy of Juice/Des Moines Register/Metromix:

Ugly Sweater Party

We got our sweaters at Goodwill – i’m sorta covering his up, but it was hilariously ugly. Not sure what i’m doing with my hands there in the photo, though.

Eureka!

09 science Dec

I’ve always wondered how scientists came up with the seemingly-arbitrary number ten for the dimensions. I couldn’t imagine anything beyond time, the fourth. This little video has given me at least a little bit of understanding. It makes sense now, cool!

Ok – i promise this will be quick and painless.

People have got to stop using the word “literally” to mean exactly the opposite of what it does mean. I’ve actually heard people misuse it on the news, on their blogs, everywhere.

Literally does not mean “practically.” Quite the opposite.

When you say “literally,” you mean that the outrageous thing you’re saying is true in the exact way you said it. (I’m going to use the most recent example of misuse but not attribute it to who said it, ’cause i’m really not trying to pick on him or her. It’s just fresh in my mind.) If you say something is “literally everywhere,” you’re pretty much always going to be lying, because nothing is literally everywhere. Not air, not matter – possibly time, because time and space are conjoined, but now i’m completely off topic.

To quote my favorite grammar website, “Don’t say of someone that he ‘literally blew up’ unless he swallowed a stick of dynamite.”

Thanks for your attention! Have a literally lovely day.

It’s been a rough few days, but i haven’t blogged in a while, so here are some photos from Thanksgiving.

The Dinner Table

We had dinner at Grandpa’s, as usual. But this year we decided to actually eat at the table and put the food on the buffet, so i tackled the job of cleaning off the buffet with Jamie’s help. It was no easy task, but i’d say it was pretty rewarding. First Grandpa’s jungle of plants had to be moved to the bedroom, and then all the junk had to be removed from the buffet and dusted and put back after the windows and the buffet itself had been cleaned. Whew! The meal was delicious (thanks Mom!), and we got to enjoy it comfortably.

Centerpiece
I found this guy while cleaning, and he became the centerpiece.

Not pictured is Grandpa, and of course myself. It was a somewhat morose dinner, as the family isn’t feeling particularly thankful this year. We still have each other though, as Mom pointed out, and that’s certainly something to be grateful for. I’m grateful for my job and my wonderful boyfriend, and for the friends i’ve made and re-made this year.

It’s all snowy right now in Iowa, but that’s not what’s got me feeling down. I’m trying to dislodge my foot from between my jaws and i’m pretty bad at that. With the dual-bad-excuse of alcohol and the internet, i’ve said a lot of stupid things lately, and i’m sorry. I went to the dermatologist yesterday and he says i have hyperlinear palms.

too many lines on my hands
and too many words in my mouth.
